Oh! How Right She was!

Oh! How right Mrs. Grundy was to declare wholesale denunciation of kings as excessive (see Why “No Kings?”). Some might even say her Keen Observation was prophetic.

For didn’t King Charles III and the Queen Camilla visit these former colonies and, in both manner and style, sweep the erstwhile No Kings revolutionaries off their feet? 

As Mrs. Grundy’s petition for a seat in the House of Representatives’ chamber went unanswered, she watched the speech at home on the C-SPAN television channel, drinking tea from her beloved Union Jack mug. 

She admits disappointment in America’s paltry pageantry, for what is a King without a carriage? Unlike the Presidential Mullet, the King cannot impose his favored mode of transport, such as the Diamond Jubilee State Coach and six Windsor Greys, upon foreign hosts. In America Charles rode in a mere automobile. Wearing a seat belt, no doubt. 

Mrs. Grundy appreciated the King’s pre-emptive denial of any rear guard action to reclaim the colonies. He refuted, with signature dry British wit, the social media rumors that His Majesty’s Royal Navy planned to blockade the Potomac River and siege Mt. Vernon. 

As Mrs. Grundy applauded the candor and substance of the speech, she hoped it might inspire these young United States to revert to their noble past. Surely, they can find and elect leaders more like George Washington and less like King George III.

She must also praise King Charles and the Queen Camilla as inspiring examples of the arduous, yet joyful, quest for a virtuous life. They reassure all and sundry that even the greatest humiliations, when handled with grace, can eventually be overcome. 

After this most pleasant regal stopover, Mrs. Grundy hopes the matter of American independence is settled, once and for all. The latter day No Kings revolutionaries may stand down, confident the English monarchy, at least, is not a threat. Indeed.
